Canon to invest more than $600 million in Hampton Roads subsidiaries, creating more than 1,000 jobs in Virginia


 

Canon Virginia Inc. will invest a total of more than $600 million in its Newport News operations and its Industrial Resource Technologies Inc. (IRT) subsidiary's facilities in Gloucester County, the first of several expansions planned as part of Canon Virginia's "Vision for the Future" program. Canon Virginia is a subsidiary of Canon U.S.A. Inc.

Canon Virginia's expansion in Newport News includes the construction of a new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, and repair and refurbishing operations for select Canon products, creating more than 1,000 new jobs. The IRT subsidiary, owned by Canon Virginia and Canon U.S.A. recycles toner cartridges materials, reflecting Canon�s focus on environmental management.

Foreclosure Prevention Task Force

In November, Governor Timothy M. Kaine announced the formation of Virginia’s Foreclosure Prevention Task Force. The intent of the task force is to protect and preserve homeownership for Virginia’s working families and communities in light of the current foreclosure trends.

The task force is chaired by Secretary of Commerce and Trade Patrick Gottschalk and will work to:

  1. Collect and analyze data to assess foreclosures in Virginia and determine level of homeownership preservation needs.
  2. Identify and review financial and programmatic resources available to homeowners to minimize the number of foreclosures.
  3. Recommend outreach, counseling and educational programs and activities that focus on foreclosure prevention and support to homeowners.
  4. Review existing Virginia laws and regulations and recommend appropriate revisions, including legislative actions if needed.

Volkswagen To Locate U.S. Headquarters In Fairfax County

Sept. 6, 2007 — Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced that Volkswagen of America, Inc. will invest more than $100 million to relocate its U.S. corporate headquarters to Fairfax County. The new 185,000-square-foot facility in Woodland Park business park will serve as the U.S. headquarters for Volkswagen of America, Inc., and will include the U.S. headquarters for Audi of America, Inc., Audi Financial Services, Volkswagen Credit and other affiliated operations. The project will create 400 new jobs in Fairfax County.
