Governor McDonnell Commends Avis Budget Group for Job Creation and Economic Development in Virginia Beach
– Mayor Will Sessoms Today Announced City's Success in Attracting Avis Budget Group in State of the City Address –
RICHMOND – Governor Bob McDonnell today commended Avis Budget Group on their decision to expand operations in Virginia. The car rental company will relocate 100 senior–level management positions from Parsippany, N.J. to its facility in Virginia Beach.
Speaking about Avis Budget Group's expansion, Governor McDonnell remarked, "It's always a great day when we hear about job creation in Virginia – especially of this magnitude. The economic impact of Avis Budget Group's decision to expand in Virginia Beach will greatly benefit the Hampton Roads community and the entire state. Just last year the company consolidated operations from Orlando to Virginia Beach and hired more than 70 new employees. The 100 new senior positions that are part of this expansion are high–paying job opportunities. While my office did provide some assistance through our jobs investment program, the decision to relocate and expand was primarily due to the hard work of the City of Virginia Beach and Mayor Will Sessoms. I want to commend the City of Virginia Beach for their success in convincing Avis Budget Group to again choose Virginia Beach for a company expansion. I also want to recognize the company's success during these tough economic times. It is testament to their success in the Commonwealth that Virginia Beach was again chosen for expansion."
