Governor McDonnell Announces "Virginia at Work!" Tour
– Governor to Attend Events at Job-Creating Projects From Dublin to Herndon –
**7 Stops from March 29th to April 15th**
RICHMOND - Continuing his Administration's focus on job creation and economic development, Governor Bob McDonnell announced today that he is embarking on a "Virginia at Work!" tour over the next two weeks, aimed at highlighting a number of important private-sector job-creating projects underway around the Commonwealth. During the "Virginia at Work!" tour, Governor McDonnell will visit companies in Herndon, Lynchburg, Dublin, Prince George and other localities for ribbon cuttings and openings. Virginia's unemployment rate has fallen from 7.2% in February 2010 to 6.4% this February. The Commonwealth has the nation's ninth lowest unemployment rate, and the third lowest east of the Mississippi River. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, since February 2010 the number of unemployed Virginians has decreased for 12 consecutive months.
Speaking about the "Virginia at Work!" tour, Governor McDonnell remarked, "This tour around the state is an opportunity to highlight recent private sector job growth in the Commonwealth. Whether it is a packaging center in Dublin, an advanced manufacturing project in Prince George or a business expansion by a nationally recognized brand in Lynchburg, job-creating businesses continue to find compelling reasons to choose Virginia as the best place to start or expand. The tour will highlight Virginia's low tax and regulatory environment, skilled workforce, high quality of life and the many other factors that make Virginia the best state in the country in which to do business. I am pleased to highlight the success of these private-sector job creators over the next month."
McDonnell continued, "My administration has been focused since day one on creating a climate in which the private sector can grow, thrive and create jobs. Virginia is absolutely wide open for business. That's because we are dedicated to ensuring that we continue to be home to the top jobs in the country. Along with Chief Jobs Creation Officer Bill Bolling, my administration will continue to do everything we can to make sure that the high-paying jobs of the 21st century are created right here in the Commonwealth. Virginia has a wealth of resources that are key to ensuring economic success, including the fifth largest port in the country, one of the most traveled airports, diverse natural and agricultural resources and a highly educated work force. We look forward to making many more jobs announcements in the months and years ahead. Virginia is at work!"
